Also, for $600,000 you would expect the car to at least have a gear shift knob...

Ok Al Capones Family Donated this car to the Cars and Stars museum that has been torn down now. It was in Nashville. We bought the car from that museum. Who had it for many years ever since the Family donated the car

If it was Al Capone's car, and his family donated it to the Museum, and you bought it from the Museum, then when/how did Roy Acuff and Marty Robbins come to own it at one time??

Personally, I think attributing any vehicle to an underworld character, a criminal, dictator, or otherwise less than desirable person is degrading to the vehicle. It should be discounted an appropriate amount depending on how bad the previous owner was. But, this is just me and there are plenty of people out there who love to relish in being related to fame no matter to whom or how bad. We used to have a ZIL or was it a ZIS at the Blackhawk Museum that was supposed to have been be a former Stalin parade car. I had to ask some visitors not to spit on it. Separating the artist from the art...

Amen, JW. Have never fathomed the fascination with anything connected with reprehensible people. Perhaps the best we can do, as owners, caretakers, admirers of "the car built by gentlemen for gentlemen," is to distance ourselves from such displays.

Sadly, we live today in more of a celebrity at any cost world than ever.

John (JW), Stalin never paraded - he took the salute. To my knowledge he never drove in a ZIS convertible and never in a ZIL (after his death the car manufacturer ZIS has been renamed to ZIL). The museum fancies itself to support the legend, probably for reasons of marketing (picture attached).

To educate is one of the main purposes of museums ...

One cannot necessarily assume that the extent of someone's fame (e.g. Charles Manson) is related to a positive performance. Chronicle events like 9/11, pieces of contemporary history like the blue dress from Monica Lewinsky or the remorseless cruelty of Soviet leaders arouse our interest because of their impact on the public awareness.

Gerd,

Thanks for the clarification. The information label also cited Packard's body dies going to Russia as part of a Lend-Lease deal in the early part of WW-II. As you say, makes for more interesting marketing.

John, I should be more more cautious with words. I've never seen a picture that shows him in a ZIS convertible but he did a lot of things without informing us.
