I built my fair share of model cars when I was a "young'un" but has anyone ever see one of these? By the looks of it, I'm glad it never came to fruition but based on the winning bid, it obviously became a collector's item just like the real thing has done today.

I bought and built one when they came out. It's kicking around in my closet somewhere.

I agree with you about the looks - which is probably why it's in the closet (so to speak).

I just clicked on the link Gator provided. $71 and change for that kit.....

Brings to mind the conversation between Indiana Jones and Beloque (sp) in "Raiders of the Lost Ark" in which Indy is told that if a cheap watch is buried in the sand for a thousand years it will become "Priceless". Seems that the '66 Packard is on it's way.

Built quite a few model cars myself, back in the day, mostly customs in the Mongram line, but remember a revival series of four kits. Apparently, they sold well enough that another four were produced.

Rather than rehash the details, here's a link that shows 'em all:

madle.org/evival.htm

I can see why the box only ever showed the Packard in profile; Exner's design loses me with that grille.

Hope you're right. Believe I still have an unbuilt kit tucked away somewhere.

Ay yi yi. That grill is not even reminiscent of the classic Packard shape in any way that I can tell, unless it's upside down or something.

It is only my opinion but I feel Exner peaked with the 1960 Imperial. Beginning with the '61, things got a little bizarre.

Well, the top line of the grille is reminsicent of the traditional ox-yoke shape incorporated into the top of the classic grille - much like the upper grill bars (moldings) of the V8s.

Alas, the options for grille design are really limited with those concealed headlamps. This looks like a job for Mahoning63!

I remember these from my model-building days (I was in elementary school in the 60's).

I always wanted the kits, but never picked them up. Wish I had now! AND that I had all the other kits I built back then...
