Unfortunately, if his car is like mine there is still no access removing the toe plate. The body is solid between the switch and plate opening. When doing my modern brakes, how much I was wishing I could have used some of that wasted space near the switch.

Howard, right your are, I had forgotten that. But I was still able to loosen the dimmer switch and move it out of the way, accessing through the cover plate hole. It was no problem doing this or reinstalling it. As I recall.

You are absolutely right. You can reach down and under. As I understand the issue, the convertible reinforcement totally covers that open space on the bottom?? Would be nice to see a picture of exactly the situation and how they did the reinforcement.

It is in the same place -- on the frame rail below the battery and vent tube.

I just called my local NAPA dealer and tried to order the part on the Parts ref. guide and they said that

Brake light switch - All 1955-1956 SL-138 ECHLIN NAPA

is actually SL-134 :)

REALLY love this site, A lot of excellent info!!

Hi Howard, I hope all is well. Where is the location of the stop light switch on my 1954 Packard Pacific? Napa has a SL134 $11.69 and a SL134 SB for $9.99. Which is compatible? A vendor has for $25.00. Your help is greatly appreciated.

Hi, I found the location. Under the steering column to the left I think. Is the switch something I can easily unscrew and replace? I have attached 3x photos. To inspect and add brake fluid do I unscrew the square nut in the 3rd photo?

As I recall all 1951-54 brake switches -- manual or power -- are threaded into the brass junction block at the end of the master cylinder.

I believe the Napa switches are the same functionally but the price difference is due to brand and maybe country of origin or warranty. SL134 is the Echlin brand and the SL134SB is their economy or Mileage Plus brand.

You do unscrew the large square head cap to check brake fluid level.

Here is a photo Big Kev took of the switch as it is placed in his manual master setup.
