You would have to remove the transmission basically to remove the convertor. Just drain it per the instructions in the Service Manual, and refill also per the instructions. If I can do it on jackstands in the garage, anyone can.

Type F won't be easy to find, it's been obsolete for decades. I'd suggest Type FA which is still very much a current substitute but do first read the info about trans fluids in FAQ.

?? I have no problems finding type F for my Packard with the leaky transmission.

Thanks JD, but my bad. It was Type A that I was thinking of as unavailable - yes for sure Type F is readily available. Another mental lapse in my column.
