Wonder if your San Diego snow is the same stuff the local weather people are calling graupel.

Never heard the term before last week but several of the weather reporters have been throwing the name around since the storm started. Whatever is coming down in some places apparently does not fit the official description of either snow or hail.

As I understand it, whatever flake was falling out of the sky was too large, heavy and dense to be called snow but at the same time was not large, dense. or heavy enough to be called hail so it was technically graupel. Despite the name it is still wet, cold, slippery, messy and white.

After moving to the Midwest, I am now familiar with the term Graupel.

Basically, soft ice pellets.

It's the Dippin' Dots of snow.

The first and only time I experienced graupel was in Scottsdale AZ. Seems the storm laid down a stripe of the stuff about 1 mile wide and 5 or 6 miles long. Not a very big area, but the depth was at least 2 – 3 inches. It was something like an intense hailstorm without the noise and car damage . . . pellets not much bigger than BBs, and not quite frozen solid. The pellets seem to block the water run-off, so the streets were quite a mess with water that couldn’t drain. There was a spring training baseball field in the path of the storm, and after the storm passed every news helicopter was taking video footage of the fields covered in white. The surface air temperature was quite mild, so this must have come from an attitude similar to hail. The TV weather people that night were just aflutter trying to explain what had just happened. Wikipedia has an article that explains the snowflake and super-cooled water formation of graupel. They, the weather heads, consider graupel distinct from hail, but from ground level it looked the same to me.

That gaupel I did see. Landed on my jacket.

But flakes were falling too.

Got this switch in to by pass parking relay.

But I think i will add one more switch
To give access to push button. By passing starter relay.

Need to print a sticker as to what's what.

But went with center off. So whole push button is dead

Thinking of someone wants to steal.

Or carjacking.. Just switch off Pb
And no shifting..

Wrapped contact with fish paper. And tape.

Pretty close next to dash

Update

Switch

Doesn't work like I thought.. Push buttons are powered all the time. Key on.

So to kill it. Another switch. Cutting off ignition wire. From ballast.

Dpdt throw center off switch. Push buttons still work.

Rik, I just noticed I made a bad mis statement in the description of the yellow and tan wires in the description paragraph to the right of the relay. The last sentence should end "allowing push buttons to select park if relay fails". The key has nothing to do if off and if that is the reason you are having difficulty I do apologize. Not sure why you want to kill the buttons with key on though so guess I am not really understanding what you are trying to do.

The buttons should all get power via the wire coming from the ballast resistor to F on the auto park relay and once the key turns off the ballast resistor should lose power and the buttons should all be dead. The yellow and tan wires connected to switch will not bypass and provide power to the park button when key is off but are there to let the park button work if the relay has failed to operate for whatever reason as I experienced a couple of times.

Everything works as usual with switch in normal direction and key on. If sw flipped the other way, buttons all still work except it will not go into auto park when the key is turned off. The buttons are all still dead with key off and switch flipped to the no auto park side.

It does kill the park relay.

And switched other way.

Key off it does goes to park. Pushing P.

The ballast was after thought . to kill power to buttons. Anti Theft carjacking.

Which. I noticed when I did Packard's starter relay by pass.

When they said disconnect ballast ignition wire.

Otherwise. If R.L.D.H. was in gear. Car would take off ..

When I first put Pb in. I didn't have the starter relay.

I could start in gear..

The reason I would want that. Is if the motor gets stuck in gear. You can At Least. Move the car.

It takes awhile for converter to pump up. As long as E brake on. And foot on brake your ok..

I have the switch in center. And auto park works.

Will take awhile to get used to the other way.

Key off and manually put it in park.
