General Rebuild Costs of Engines

Very generally speaking...............

Would it be less expensive to rebuild a 1946 through 1954 Packard straight 8 or a 1955-56 Packard V-8? All rebuilds of course replacing and restoring all components to a high degree. Further, conditions of both engines similar.

Thanks

Having been very involved in rebuilding many of the in-line engines and being on the sideline for a couple of Packard V8s, there is a far larger difference in doing the 9-main 356 over the 282/288/327 engines than there is between a V8 and a 5-main (and 359) engine. This is due to the construction of the 356 crankshaft and the need to remove/reinstall the counterweights for shaft grinding.
