I'm posting this in here because as you can see I veered from original. The only mods I made were a 12 volt upgrade, frenched 50 Buick tailghts and a healthy lowering. Also added an external late model tranny cooler. Next is to get the cruiser skirts on, Chrome bullits on the front wheels and modify the exhaust for open dumps near the front wheels. Its currently just running a single straight pipe.

G'day,

Like to see a close up pic of the Buick taillights, if you could? And some info on how you lowered your Packard? Not planning to do it myself, just interested in what's involved and how you went about it.

Oldgold-

Nice custom. Tastefully modified, and looking good! Your taillights are pretty cool

I will get some close up of the tailights for you. As for lowering, In the front I cut 1 1/2 coils and added a 2" spring rubber to retain the ride. I am however having Eaton Spring make me a set for a proper 3" lowering. I also added new lower bump stops. In the rear, I added 3" lowering blocks, removed the #4 & #6 spring and added airshocks and a ride leveling compressor from and 85 Riviera. This allows me to raise and lower about 5" with the flip of a switch. Also added shorter bump stops. This does make for a "spongier" ride in the rear so I will be swapping to newer Chevy S10 Blazer springs. The have the same spring rate, a 6 leaf pack but are much straighter to allow a stiffer ride with no bounce. Hope this helps.

That is a actually a pickup. It's a 42 Ford cab, chopped 6" with the windshield laid back 3". The front sheetmetal is from a 39 Ford Standard coupe. I just started on that one.

OldGold,

Thanks for the quick reply, these old eyes didn't catch it was a pickup. Now you know why I need close up pic's of the taillights.
