I have primed the oil pump twice this week.
The photos do not show it well but I'm only getting half the oil on the right side as I am getting on the left. I was hoping that would not be an issue with the Oldsmobile oil pump.

Check out bulletin 55-T5 where it details the oil flow to the heads and rocker arms. I doubt the mis drilled passage would still be an issue without being repaired by now but possibly there is still some crud in the passage or the rocker pedestal bolt does not have the same amount of clearance for oil to flow past as the one on the left side.

I have a 1955 400 roof that was cut off for a Caribbean.
Let me know if you could use it.

So, it looks like I have to tear this engine back down, lucky me. I do see now that I did not replace the heads to the original sides. I got them back-ass-ward even though I tagged them as left and right.
Its been sitting for a couple years but has never run. I hope those gaskets are still usable. The dang head gaskets alone are $100.

I don't need a roof folks. I repaired what I have.

You maybe be right about the heads,
But
The service manual says they are interchangeable, page 2 of engine section

Does it matter if they were exchanged? Left and right are the same.

Doesn't matter which head is used on a side but with the low oil flow problem being on the right head the plug and opening for the passage is facing the firewall. I could be wrong but to remove the plug and check for crud or a too short hole in that passage or any other possible reason for low flow I don't think it will be very easy if that head remains on the engine.

I agree that the heads are interchangeable but something is different because of the oil flow. I do not believe this engine would have lasted long out of the factory with the poor oil flow that the right side has right now.

So, I will remove the right side and drill it like the service update says and then try to prime it again.
If the flow is not any better I'll swap the heads and try priming it that way.

I'll start it this weekend.

Thanks

Agree it is unlikely there is a short passage so I'd also check the passage in the block for crud or any mis alignment of the head gasket hole or related issues before drilling.
