In my car the ammeter does not show charging, just discharge. The reasoning was that the full charge from the alternator could burn out the ammeter.

Under the dash on the left of the column is a discrete red light which comes on when the ignition is on, but turns off when the system id charging, An idiot light of sorts.

Thus far no problems.....

I had changed my gauges from the stock junior ones (green background and idiot lights for oil pressure and gen) to those from a senior (silver background and gauges for oil and gen). The wires for the oil pressure and gen lights were cut from the light sockets and used for their respective gauges (one each gauge). The pink wires for the idiot lights are still attached to the sockets and just dangling behind the dash.

I don't see how there could be any idiot light hooked up on a senior car with a gauge, unless someone put one in.

Should have read that the idiot light was installed under dash...

Please forgive my post if it offended, as I was just a little confused about having both an ammeter gauge and a warning light in your car.
