Don,

The seller included an amazing ~300 photos and some sorting through will find that it's labeled "SPEAKER".

As far as I'm aware, such a knob was not included when you got the rear speaker, yet it appears original. Wonder if it was something on the 56's only.

The RPO chart shows that the 3-way radio comes with the electric antenna and rear speaker: "Radio, Three-Way Tuning with
Electric Antenna and Rear
Compartment Speaker*"

I have never seen another one with that knob though, and even the normal radios did not have a "Speaker" knob; they had Tone and Tuning knobs, so it wasn't just pulled off of something. Maybe someone else here will know.

55 Clipper Custom...
Saw this one posted a while back. In TX and looks great but doesn't run. Could be a great project for someone who can deal with major mechanical work. Has a good amount of options including factory A/C.

Also I think the price could easily be bargained down by a few thousand.

It says speaker on the knob. Probably balance adjustment between front and rear speaker.

Interesting about the speaker control and it does look stock but I've never seen one in that location. On my 1951 through 1954 Packards, it is at the lower left side of the dash near the power antenna switch but it would make sense to put it near the radio even if the factory itself dit not put it there!

Looks like a nice project.

Some years from now I'd like to take up a project like that, but it's out of my budget for now, and I don't have a good workspace yet.

I hope someone gets that '29 Coupe quick, someone that's going to put it back together!! (Save it from the fate worse than death, the body swap onto a Chevy S10 chassis )

I was reading that the engine is apart and thinking about having to reinstall that antiquated unhappy stuff, but it looks like the long block is together and it's a matter of hanging all the accessories back on it.

That's one of my favorite closed body styles.

If you're not having fun, maybe it's your own damned fault.
