Can anyone provide me with info on the 22nd series air cleaner? I've got a '48 touring and my Pop's got a '48 club. is the air cleaner oil bath or dry? If oil bath how and where is the oil put?

48s came with at least 3 different styles I can think of, two of which were oil wetted, one was oil bath. Generally if you can see the filter media it is the oil wetted type. Rinse it in thinner, dry it, squirt oil all over it, let it drain, put it back.

The third type is a real oil bath filter, hangs sideways over the engine, and the reservoir is at the bottom of the left side portion.

Thanks. Ours are just tall metal cans with a lid that screws on. There are 4 1/2" or so holes inside around a metal cylinder that clamps on the carb. A side brace helps hold it in place. Looks as if the air is drawn somehow through these holes. Any thoughts?
