Am curious if your car has a special rear end. The 53 Caribbean is on the 2631 chassis and if stock, the drum would be used on several 48-50 and 53-54 models. If stock, I believe your rear drum and hub part number would be 351423
The 433197 part number you gave is for a 51-54 commercial chassis -- mostly ambulances and hearses. I believe one other poster has a commercial rear end on a convertible but not sure the reason. Attach file: (11.64 KB) (10.16 KB) (9.88 KB)

thank you for your patient guidance. a light bulb lit in my head regarding interpretation of all those numbers, somehow I saw 2613 thru 2633 rather than 2613 and 2633. I also realized that 2631 is chassis and 2678 is body. someday I will understand all. Ken

No problem. We have all had experiences trying to figure out Packards numbering system and where or how they categorized a part. Some placements (and part names) are truly interesting. Just hang in there and it will eventually be clear as mud.
Of course, once you think you have it conquered and know whether to look under chassis or body number, they throw in a ringer.

Old post but just to clarify that there is no way that a Henney-Packard rear end would fit into a Caribbean! The Henney's springs and axle mounts were outside the chassis while Packard's were inboard; the Henney rear end is about 5" or 6" wider than Packard's (going from memory for the number); the brake drums are very deep and 14" diameter! Here's a Henney drum.

...is there a source for interchange information other years?
Sure, Hollander's Interchange Manual or the Packards International Interchange booklet. The Hollander Interchange # for Packard #351421 is 460 which was also used on 1803-06, 1906-06, and 2023. The Packards International Interchange booklet was published in 1977 and has been long out of print - perhaps a copyright violation as its data is all copied directly from Hollanders. But Hollander's are still easy available as reprints and some original copies come up from time to time. It's a valuable resource.

Not 100% sure of the poster but believe it was Joe S's Duchess 40 convertible that has an odd rear end. Whether it is Henney is unknown and it might be from a later car but IIRC, he was trying to replace a rear drum or something else related to brakes. What he kept receiving was too small. Finally received the correct item by ordering something the parts book said was only used on commercial chassis.
