23 series brake drum color?

I was cleaning the drums and I'm finding what looks like bits of red paint under black. There was some gold stuck to the black were the wheels touch when bolted up, like it had gold rims at one time or they put them on wet.
Did these items come painted from the factory?
What would be the correct rim color? Same as car? The original rims are black, but not sure if correct. It's got two green GM rims/no clips on it.
The frame is bare, so I wouldn't expect the drums to be painted, as paint would just burn off.

The drums are all almost new which should be close to original at 44K, I'd think. Looks like maybe <0.1" was taken off from the machine marks. The shoes are new but relined, which is probably right for that mileage.
Anyone ever try to put self-adjusters on? Or are these bullet proof brakes, like I think they are?
