We've covered the manual heater valves before. The rear valve on the block has a 3/8 fitting and is available several places. However, the front valve mounts atop the water pump with a 5/8 thread and I am having no luck finding that one. Has anybody found one?

I guess the alternative would be to look for a 3/8 to 5/8 adapter if there is such thing. Anybody see a problem with that?

Four Seasons makes the heater hose fittings. It is a hose fitting at the water pump and not a valve. Also have found on EBAY- try 5/8 heater hose fitting. You will be successful.

I agree that the water pump only had a nipple and not a valve but am confused why yours is 5/8 thread -- unless you mean the physical dimension, not the pipe size. Mine is 3/8 pipe -- same size as the head port -- with a 5/8 hose nipple. As you said, commonly available -- although the modern valves may not look the same as the old Packard types -- particularly in height.

If you do want a valve in front, the same size valve should fit. They do make 3/8 male to female pipe adapters. Here is the configuration I used to raise the new valve so the hose is farther away from the manifold.

Funny, I got the plumbing merit badge, but that was a long, long time ago.

Still a mystery why someone put an extra valve on the water pump and if I had thought about it, it seems redundant.
