Spring is here. . . beautiful, unless You've stripped a stud hole in the block. So now looking at possible ways to fix: 1 Maybe a helicoil ? 2. Tap the hole oversize to
1/2"NC and use a Dorman S-76 stud 1/2"for block & 7/16Nf for the nut, ( parts house says, "obselete" )
Maybe someone has another or possibly better idea, any and all would be appreciated. Any way without having to remove the engine again, ( 15th series 120 ) just rebuilt 282.
Tried Kanter & Max for oversize studs, no luck.

You can repair that with a 7/16-20 helicoil without so much as removing the head--in fact, having the head on makes it easy to drill straight. Use plenty of sealer and a regular packard stud.

If the broken stud is still in the block you might try welding a large nut to the end of the broken stud. The size of nut needs to fit diameter of the broken end so that it can be welded. I only have an old mains voltage arc welder, A TIG welder would probably be better. The heat from the welding assists in looseneing the stud then it is simply unscrewed out with the nut. I have removed a couple of studs this way even though the studs wee broken flush with the top of the block. Otherwise, drill & and helicoil taking care to ensure the drill is square to the block.
