Anyone have a photo of the inner gas filler lid assy showing how the two springs are positioned and their shape? Parts says the same springs are used on Clipper and and later style bodies thru 23rd series.

Thanks Mark. After seeing the photo, am thinking of getting some R & L torsion springs from McMaster. They have some in various wire diameters -- not quite the same number of coils -- but look promising enough to only need a little work bending the wire ends to shape to fit the holes. Is the original wire diameter approx 1/16" or is it less? Unless mine are really worn, I am thinking with the size of the holes the original wire is probably somewhere around the .063 size.

Does the overall dimensions of this spring look comparable after losing approx 1/2" on each leg for the bends? Only other thing to consider is if the original was 90 degrees like this one or maybe I should get 120 for a bit more tension.

Kanter and Max both have the springs but my tightwad side starts showing at times and very expensive springs is one of them

A place to keep in mind for all types of springs is Century Spring, they have perhaps a million or more cataloged standard springs. Their catalog is nearly the size of the New York City white pages.

Wire diameter is indeed .063"
OD of the coils is 3/4" and the length from the end of the coil to the first bend is approximately 3/4" for both ends
Offset for the end with the double bend is about 5/32"
Angle on the original is 70 degrees

Here are some photos of the spring for the front of the filler door.

Thanks for the photos. Looks fairly simple so will go ahead and try McMasters. Even though they only come 6 to a pack, at a price of $1 each it's worth having several extra to practice bends on and is considerably less than the already made springs. Doubt anyone will care the coils should be 3/4 dia instead of 5/8.

Didn't see any of those springs on Ulrich's site but maybe they are in his catalog.
