The particular one I use is CAM 2 Super HD, API rated SL for gas engines. The Shell and Pennzoil products noted earlier are rated SN.

I have been using Valvoline VR-1 Racing oil in my Packards for years with excellent luck. It has a high ZDDP content. This oil is not available in straight weight, only 10-40 and 20-50. The heavier weight oil would work good in highly worn engines. This oil is available at any major parts house.
Thanks,
Mike

This is a very good book written by a fellow classic car driver and former employee in the oil industry. It has a good bit of theory and engineering of oils, history of oils and history of specifications and advice on selecting a Multi grade oil for your car given your ambient temps and original oil reccomendation from the OEM.
Oil book
Also has info about how to choose transmission oils for Auto/man and Overdrives. Even has technical descriptions of what zddp and phosphor in oil were used for and do/did.

Some People say oil is like religion.....I have shifted my oil selection from thicker to thinner oils after reading this book.
If this book was already mentioned by somebody here, sorry for repeating, but I guess it is worth repeating.
