All: David Michael English, was born in Harrisburg PA February 5, 1937, son of Samuel James English, Jr and Sarah Broxterman English. He lived in Harrisburg from 1937 until 1941, and then lived in Newport DE from 1941-45. He returned to Harrisburg, graduated from John Harris High School in 1955 and then earned a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering in 1959 from Bucknell University in Lewisburg. David was married nearly 55 years to Jane Louise Reuning English, of Gettysburg, and is also survived by four sons: Scott David English and wife Debra, White Hall MD; Peter Ashley English and wife Cynthia, Heathrow FL; Timothy John English and wife Edith, Annandale VA; and Paul Mansfield English and wife Renatte, New Market MD. He also has 3 grandchildren, Sarah Elizabeth and Matthew Peter, Heathrow FL, and Elizabeth Magdalena, New Market MD. He was pre-deceased by one brother, Samuel James English III. After graduation from Bucknell in 1959, David joined The Glenn L Martin Co in Middle River, MD (now Lockheed-Martin Co) and married Jane Reuning in 1960. As an engineer for Martin, specializing in flight control systems, he travelled to Milwaukee WI, Denver CO, and returned to Baltimore in 1966. In 1967 he joined CM Kemp Manufacturing Co as Chief Engineer, and ultimately went to work at US Army Edgewood Arsenal in the development of chemical and biological equipment. Significant programs under his direction included MSI Collective Protection, the Demilitarization Protective Ensemble, the M43 mask for the Apache helicopter, and removal of the US chemical munitions stockpile stored in Germany. David retired from Aberdeen Proving Ground/ Edgewood Arsenal in 1993. In retirement in Gettysburg, David applied his talents to the full restoration of two buildings. The first, in 1995, was the "The Academy Building" on West High Street, home of both Gettysburg College and the Lutheran Theological Seminary. Second, he restored "The Sewing Factory" building on 4th street in 1997. David was a member of Christ Lutheran Church, Gettysburg, the Adams County Historical Society, Historic Gettysburg-Adams County, and had served 10 years on the Historic Architecture Review Board of the Borough of Gettysburg. An avid automobile collector, he was a member of the Antique Automobile Club of America (life member), Packard Automobile Classics (PAC), Mid Atlantic Packards, and the Veteran Motor Car Club of America. He was a Roster Keeper for 5th Series 6-cylinder Packards for the national Packard club. A memorial service will be held 11:30 AM, Wednesday, February 25, 2015 at Christ Lutheran Church, 30 Chambersburg St., Gettysburg, PA with Rev. Steve Herr officiating. The family will receive friends from 10:30 AM until the time of the service Wednesday morning at the church.
