I believe he is referring to a TV show which is lightheartedly spoofing all of the "EPIC MINISERIES" from the 1970-80's (Roots, North and South, Rich Man, Poor Man, etc.

The first series was 'Spoils of Babylon' where a bombastic writer/director/etc. (a spoof on Orson Wells) Eric Jonrush (Will Ferrell) introduced his last great work of art, albeit cut down to 6-8 30 minute episodes. Basically involved a poor family becoming rich and the daughter becoming consumed with her adopted brother. Will Ferrell's portrayal is just as much if not funnier than the episodes.

The new series is 'Spoils before Dying' and is supposed to be a 1950's film noir take off that "President Eisenhower burned all copies to prevent the disturbing nature to infect America's youth." Burned all but one.

If anyone has ever had to (parent watched them) sit through some of those hammy telepics then you might find this show amusing.
