Geoff has rented a storage space to get the Monte Carlo convertible out of the weather and has taken the car off of the trailer. New photos (scroll down):

For those of you, who are new to PackardInfo and interested in concept cars, I recommend reading this thread. The headline doesn't reveal the variety of cars, we talked about after Dave (O_D) started it in 2008.
I will warm over the Phantom (mentioned here and there), a car, which shouldn't be measured by today's standards. The shape of the pushbutton-operated doors is really impressive.

I don't believe that the doubtful source of the images deserves credits, when reading that they "may be subject to copyright".

After slightly psychedelic hubcaps, which I haven't seen so far at other Phantom versions, now to its chromed engine.

The whole car was filled with surprises and that applies for the trunk also. Its eight exhaust pipes or end pieces remind me of the fourth funnel from the RMS Titanic, installed for aesthetic purposes. Please don't forget that the quantity of tailpipes stood for power and sportiness at that time. A Jaguar E-Type 1st series or a Benelli 750 Sei come to my mind.

It must be the old hot rodder in me, I like the look of the eight stack exhaust. Even if it's just for looks.

aside.
Besides the Packard Monte Carlo and the French Riviera city of Monte Carlo, Australia also has a Monte Carlo........the Monte Carlo biscuit! A sweet biscuit beloved by generations of Australians. Arnott's was originally an Australian company but is now owned by KKR. I still have fond memories of the Arnott's biscuit factory at North Strathfield, next to the railway line, and the delicious aromas emanating from it(breath deeply and it was almost as good as eating the biscuits themselves) as I passed it twice each day going to and from work. There endeth the lesson on Arnott's.

Mal, as all of us know, the connection between Packard and biscuits was strong. Appropriate to the season, I mention the Packard cookie cutter, famous the world over (an image, published on etsy.com is attached). Once, when the Packard factory moved from Ohio to Detroit, even a renaming to Pacookie Motor Car had been considered.
The Phantom constructors had regards to the feelings of Australian Packard owners, who lived in North Strathfield, next to the railway line and installed a hidden Arnott's biscuit drawer in the dashbord (see below).

Chacun à son goût as they say or everybody has their own taste. That's a general statement and includes biscuits as well as car roofs. The latter is the most controversial part of the Packard Phantom. To me it looks like a clash of three styles. From the front backwarts it starts with a massive rectangular frame of the parted windshield, typical for its time, followed by an ultramodern three-dimensional curved top, that consists of transparent plastics to end in a rear part made of steel, reminiscent of the carriage age including landau bars without function.
Don't know if you know but an early version of the iconic futurliner came with a bubble top that boiled the drivers. To read more about bobble tops, this way, please.

A "town horn" was installed in a Renault Dauphine as well as in one of the best S-Class Mercedes W126 (image attached). The Phantom offered an extra-loud highway horn.
