Thief-Proof Numbers (body serial numbers)

Thanks to those of you who have sent me a PM with your VN and thief-proof numbers, I'm pushing forward towards 200 sets of data but still need more to firm up some patterns and assumptions. In general, with the exception of the just postwar period, the numbers are in near perfect progression from 1929 thru 1956 EXCEPT for 1955 which appears to be in total chaos, perhaps due to Packard taking over their own body production in late 1954, and the move to Conner Ave.

Some data gaps that I'd sorely like to try to fill in are:

1955
1954
1952
1935
Any before 1934.
Junior cars, 1937 and 1938

But all others are more than welcome.

Of particular interest on the 37/38 junior cars is whether the thief-proof number is enclosed between a set of triangles, a bit like <1234567>.

Thanks for your help.

Thanks guys, I really appreciate your efforts and I guess I could blow up the photos and read the thief-proof number, but it's useless without also knowing the vehicle number. How about a simple PM with data if you wish to contribute to this? Hopefully at some point if I collect enough data there may be some conclusions worth publishing.

Owen,

I have sent you a PM with Firewall number and VIN.

Also attached to this thread you will find two pages from my owners manual where my father has added the Numbers.

Owen -

I will gladly get you those numbers from my V8s, but it will have to wait until the spring thaw. A couple of the cars are out-standing in their field (literally), and the rest are in offsite storage, which is not very accessible this time of year.

Owen, I will get my two 47 Clipper #'s to you as well asap if you have any need for '47 Clipper ones. One car is tucked away for winter and the other is sitting out in the snow.

Owen, where abouts on my '55 400 firewall should I look? Center, Passenger, Driver? Is it stamped into the firewall like the pics above? Sorry for the dumb question.
