First off, anyone else going?

Second, I have an AACA judging question. I know I should ask at the AACA forum, but I don't really have time to find the login, etc, as work has been crazy! I am registering my car, and I am not sure if I should register as HPOF or its regular production class (I think 20D). The reason I am unsure is that although paint, chrome, roof insert, running boards etc are all original, but the floor covering is missing, seats have been recovered and the engine rebuilt and frame forward of the firewall painted. So, not really restored, but not untouched either. I also don't think DPC is right, because it is as originally equipped. This is a ten year decision, hence my concern. I will probably leave the car all original, but I may respray the fenders if the paint deteriorates more.

Pictures of the car are in my project blog linked below.

Ken. Great looking car. You can enter it in any class you like.

You have the freedom to enter it in HPOF, but I don't think you'd get certified. If you do, then, as you say, you're locked in for 10 years, and kind of limits you of doing any more improvements in the future (if you want to continue in HPOF).

If trophies and plaques are what you're interested in, DPC is the best spot for you. I'm not sure what you are concerned about with your statement "because it is as originally equipped." The DPC class allows some modifications, but you can certainly enter a car that is fully authentic.

Personally, I feel the car is the trophy, and I would put it in the regular judging class and mark "DO NOT JUDGE." I prefer to be parked with cars of similar age and ilk. Although, at smaller AACA Meets that's not as big of a deal as it is at shows that have 500 or more cars entered. I do not know how many cars will be in Ocala, but I'm guessing more like 250.

I hope to see you and your family there.

West, thanks for the info! I was hoping you'd have some insight. My thinking behind the HPOF class was the amount that was original on the car, but I recognize it's not 100% original.

I will likely enter it in the regular class for that year and allow it to be judged. I'm not really interested in trophies - I bought the car to be driven and enjoyed and because I enjoy preserving a piece of history. That being said, my understanding is that after the show is over, it is possible to get the judging sheet and understand what the deductions were. I thought I would do that at least once to see what the experts thought and use that list to tailor my work once the mechanicals are fully accomplished.

Thanks for the insight, and I'll look for you there!

Well, guess I am not going, or at least not with the car. Work has been hectic lately, so I didn't register until the deadline of February 1st. Apparently, even though there was an online registration option, the payment also had to be postmarked that day. Just got a call saying my registration wasn't accepted. If that information was available anywhere, I must have missed it.

Frustrating...

Showing the car! The meet is only 2.5 hours from my house, so I would go either way, but I really wanted to show it. I got my term paper done last weekend, so time for polishing, etc. this weekend.

West, sorry to hear you aren't going to be able to make it. It would have been good to meet you.
