Hi, I have a spare distributor for my 1939 Super 8. The manual says it should be a Autolite IGT 4006A but the tag on the spare says IGT 4006 19 R. Are they pretty much identical?

IGT4006 fits "1938" 1603,1604,1605

So, my question is can it be used for a '39 or does something in it have to be altered?

IGT 4006A is for a 1939 Super Eight. The numbers after that, e.g. 19 R, and not part of the distributor model but rather are manufacturing codes. There are differences in both the centrifugal and vacuum advance curves between the 4006 and the 4006A but they are modest and I'd guess that in a pinch they could be interchanged without much noticeable downside.

If you have a Motor's Manual that covers 1938 and 1939 you'll find the differences spelled out there.
