What I believe to be the OD cable in that 49 seems to be in a loop quite far out from the dash. Was it that way when new or was it supposed to be anchored to the engine or something else farther back?

oldone2 for including your 49 Super Eight Touring Sedan in the Packard Owner's Registry.

And good luck with the Club Sedan hunt.

The cable you indicate comes out high on the firewall, I suspect it's the speedometer cable.

Maybe but think the speedo cable is the other item coming out the same hole but goes diagonally above the engine and then down on the right side. IIRC, R11 speedo gear is on the right and lockout lever is on the left.

Thank you. If in Houston I would come see. I'm spoiled with a just restored '49 Series 22 sedan. Plus I wouldn't know anyone who could work on yours here. And finally I'm so old that there may not be time to do a restoration. How long have you had the car? The person who worked on mine (for resale) did nothing else for a year. And the car was good to start with.

Here's another 49 but without an asking price. That usually means "I'm too embarrassed to let you know how ridiculous my price is"

The maroon color works very well on that body style. I believe it is the first one I have seen with this paint color. A most attractive Packard. JWL
