Showing my ignorance I ask: Do the hydralulic valve lifter engines use a different block than the conventional tappet engines? I don't think so, but started wondering about how oil gets to the lifters. Be kind, please. JWL

The same block is used for solids or hydraulics, and the lifter for both are fed by the little pigtail on the driver's side that connects the upper and lower oil galleries. On the Hydraulic equipped engines, the bleed hole in the plug at the front of the upper gallery is smaller to preserve more oil there for the tappets.

James (jfrom@kanter), to see a factory fresh engine block after 63 years is a feast for the eyes. I wonder about the studs. Were they delivered screwed-in? Seen from the perspective of packing it would have been more easy to deliver the blocks without studs.

Thank you, Ross. By the way have you seen the 55 Clipper I bought from Dwight? Its new owner told me at the Texas Packard Meet in Kerville in 2016 that they were moving to the Baltimore area. I suggested he contact you for any work needed. The prodigal car may have returned to its roots. JWL

Thanks, and give him my regards. So now the 47 Custom Clipper and the 55 Clipper Super are in the same area and in your care. JWL
