Did a search and couldn't find anything. Need a generator cut out switch for my 28. Really don't want to have them rig it to work since I want to keep it as original as possible. Any help greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Stu

I bought a cut-out from Kanter for my 1930. Not original style, but works fine. Should work for your '28 as well. Look under electrical on their webpage for

4.0703 ---- Generator cut-out replacement, 1923-34 $50.00

Thanks. Want to use Kanter's as a last resort, don't really like them much.

I understand from you post on PAC that you have been unable to reach Jason at AER. You might consult the hardcopy Hemmings Motor News for generator rebuilders, there are quite a few. I've never used Ace Wichicta but I know of others who have and been quite satisfied and they've been around serving our hobby for many years. Extensive experience with Owen Dyneto units.

Even a local starter/generator shop should be able to check your generator out as to fields, armature service, brushes, etc. What they won't be able to do without the O-D adapter is to actually bench test it, due to the absence of a front support and bearing. But they should be able to locate and fix any faults.

Jason's voicemail has been full for a few weeks and I've sent him 2 emails with no response.

Ace appears to be out of business; all 3 phone numbers are no longer in service.

My local shop can't do anything because they can't bench test it.

Will keep looking for sources....

Maybe try Rex Curtiss at Precision Power, Inc. I have never done business with them but I have recently had communication with them which was very fast and friendly. I don't know if they can help or not but maybe worth a try!

I know it is not recommended that you remove the brass plate that supports the front of the generator because of concern about loss of timing. However I have done this a number of times on 1920's Packards without any problem. The gear remains in mesh with the chain and rolls down a little. When refitting the brass plate it is not difficult to roll the gear back into position with the brass plate . Maybe I have been lucky but I have never had a problem and I guess if you try it I should say, do so at your own risk.
Once you have the brass plate out you can bolt the generator to it for testing.
