This is a long shot from an old post, but did you ever install a modern trans behind your straight 8? If so who made the converter so the trans would bolt up. I have an old tired hydra matic in my 54 clipper and would love to bolt up a chevy 350 turbo to it and have 3 speeds instead of 2 and much cheaper to rebuild and to find parts for.

As far as I know Bendtsen is the only one still making any kind of adapter for Packards. Downside for anyone wanting to keep a little bit of authenticity is their adapter for the S-8 changes the starter to a modern mini hi-torque unit so you also need to figure in a conversion to 12v.https://transmissionadapters.com/collections/packard
