Edgar Allen Poe in The Purloined Letter. Is there something I'm missing? What exactly is hidden?

Rusty, I think Eric's point is that nothing is hidden. The data plate clearly states "Chrysler Corporation". Not familiar at all with the V-8's but did Packard use distributors marked as Chrysler parts?

I mostly just look at eBay parts for the 30s and 40s, but I'd estimate that 30% or so are incorrectly described as to year/model or make. Sometimes it's laughable. Buyer beware as they say.

Yeah, notice is says "splash proof" distributor on the tag.
And there are some old line MoPar fanatics that have tried real hard to bury that problem as an "urban legend".

On the surface it looks funky however sources that I have inquired of indicate that the Chrysler corp bought their distributors from the same company as Packard. I know for a fact that 1 packard in our club has a generator that also says "Chrysler" on it. Has anyone ever taken one of these "Chrysler" distributors and tried it on a Packard and knows for a fact that it will not fit or work. It might be interesting to find out. Maybe we have another crossover parts source.

It's also possible the poster has multiple parts for sell and just mixed up the pictures.

Recently there was also a Chrysler tailight described as a '57 Packard. He has since corrected the error. What really rattles my chains is when a seller describes a Packard hood cormorant as a "swan." eeeeeeeeh :( I've been known to point their error out to them!

AL, I have a parts car 1947 Custom Super Clipper and the generator on this car has a Chrysler Corporation label as well. Not an original part but it fits the bracket and is also manufactured by Autolite.
