Any suggestions for sealing the tank without plugging the whistle?

It looks like I’ve got about everything needed for getting back to work on this project so will put it front-burner once I dig it out after the shop’s insulation project which caused everything in the shop to be compressed over into the two-thirds space where it is located.

Simplified here and not necessarily in the exact order but these are the basic tasks with the primary goal of getting it movable under its own power:

Clean and seal gas tank (have cleaner and sealer)
Rebuild fuel pump (have kit)
Install new fuel sender (being rebuilt now)
Clean fuel lines and install tank with new filler hoses

Install muffler (I already have several new ones)
Install tail pipe (an NOS one has been sourced)

Install already-rebuilt brake cylinders
Install sleeved and rebuilt master
Replace rear axle seals and maybe bearings
Install replacement rear end with reproduced steel crossover lines
Clean wheels and install new tires (already have them)

Take off bell housing and check clutch
Repair is a needed, reassemble clutch
Install R11 transmission
Install driveshaft with new u-joints and revulcanized supports (have all)

Add petrol, start it and drive! Yea, sure.

For the body, nothing is planned except to replace the rear door and I have a replacement already. I may have the rocker panels addressed at some point as there is little left and it leaves a trail of rust pieces whenever moved but not sure yet.

So I’ve sourced an NOS tailpipe but have been having trouble getting it shipped cross country at a reasonable rate. It seems to go from around $600 to over $1200 which is ridiculous for something that weighs under ten pounds! Even though it’s only a thin wall 2” diameter pipe, it is 127” long and is over the limit of FedEx and UPS. I am open to ideas or if anyone is planning a trip from the east to the west and do not mind stopping in Indiana, I would love it if it could be picked up and brought somewhere closer!

Don, could the seller match mark the tailpipe in the center, and then just cut it in two? It would be easy to weld up with a MIG welder, line up the match marks and weld. That would make it a little over 60 inches.

Good Evening Don...If you don't wish to cut the tail pipe, I wonder if Grayhound Bus would take it. One of my neighbors ships stuff by Grayhound and feels that they are less expensive and nice to work with...Just a humple idea. Ernie in Arizona. Miss Prudence likes the Grayhound Idea...She sends her love.

Thank you all for the comments! The seller offered to cut it but that’s not really an option for a variety of reasons not the least of which that I don’t want it cut.

We also tried Greyhound but it is far too long for them and we also tried Fastenal with two problems: it is too long and they do not ship over some vertical line through the middle of the country.

Ernie, my love to Miss Prudence too!

Back at the Oregon shop and found the new fuel sender waiting for me! It's the original flange which is the 1948-1950 style but with a new sender attached which is the 1951-1956 type. It looks good and should work well but, of course, I'll test it before assembly.
