As long as the screw head does not protrude far enough to keep the terminals from making a full depth and complete insertion in the socket then just cutting the excess nylon off should be fine. Glue may not stick well to nylon and if not, maybe a tiny bit of heat from the tip of a soldering iron at one spot where the threads meet the nut will melt a tiny bit and keep it tight.

Another alternative is replacement. The headlight socket is a standard item and most auto parts stores offer several types of universal replacement sockets if you don't trust your repair or want to mess with rebuilding yours.

Here is one of Amazon's many offering and there are others sold at Napa and O'Reilly made of different materials by various aftermarket suppliers.

for including your '56 Executive Hardtop Coupe in the Packard Owner's Registry.

EDIT - The Packard referenced in the link above is to be deleted from the Registry because Sean "found" the original Registry entry. That was more than I could do when I saw the most recent entry!

Original entry can be found here ->'56 Executive Hardtop Coupe.

Yea, for the second time😁
Must have got lost in the shuffle. At least this time I was able to post the photo without bothering you to help. Me thinks a few more are missing from the registry

so, working on the brakes and upon disassembly, noticed these paper gaskets/seals under the oil guard and on the back side of the plate assembly? but only on the one side. I cant find them in the parts list. can anyone point me in the right direction? are they available? or what have you folks done to replace them? make your own from suitable gasket material?

thanks

Try Olson's Gaskets in Washington State and if they don't have them, they can surely make one if you have a good original,They are fast and high quality and if you do have them make it, do the legwork yourself to see which years and models it fits to include with the order so that they can catalog the template for the next person.

Sean,

See the attached photo out of the Max Merritt catalog. Is that what you're after?

Or make 'em yourself, wouldn't be hard to do out of gasket paper.

No luck finding the on Max Merritt site
Those I found on the front brake setup. I have had no luck searching Max Merritt for those. I will try to find gasket material locally and make my own go Don’s route and contract Olsen’s gaskets
Is there someplace else they would be identified in the parts book?
