I want to give a big shout out, and 2 thumb's up to Kanters. I ordered a engine rebuild kit and my engine builder had some issues with 4 pistons, not quite to spec.

Kanter was very good to send me a new set, quite awesome of them.

Seeing how I have to drive 2.5 hrs to drop pistons off, thought I would drop some stuff off at the platers. another 1 hr drive further.
taking my horn ring, the trunk and front grille emblems and headlamp doors, script

Question: the aluminum pc on the back of the headlamp doors are painted black. should this be a flat black, semi-gloss or gloss?

Also we are unsure if the plater will be able to accurately duplicate the "goldish" color of the circle emblems. will wait and see I guess

I believe the Executive used the same finishing headlight door as the Senior models and if so, the back piece is stainless and has a similar to but much finer lined pattern as the ribbed stainless on the senior sides. Black fills the grooves but the stainless shows thru on the ridges.

On my doors I used the same procedure as on the side pieces. Sprayed the entire piece with black enamel and when the paint was slightly tacky but definitely nowhere near dry I used a rag dampened with lacquer thinner tightly wrapped over a hard block of wood to go in and remove the paint adhering to the ridges. It is a tedious process and the dampness of the rag is important. Too wet or loose on the block and the rag or thinner will go into the grooves and pull paint out generally making a mess, too dry and the paint is not removed from the ridges.

What I cannot remember is if I removed the stainless from the doors. I think I did and then used sheet metal screws in carefully drilled holes to replace it on the potmetal -- similar to what was done to remove the grill mesh -- but again I cannot remember and don't really want to remove them to see the back.

EDIT: Looking at an extra door, the stainless looks fairly easy to remove and there is room for drilling so probably I did remove them. If you are going to have the pot metal plated your plater may need them removed too so they can get down inside to do the polishing.

Thanks HH56, mine appear to have been painted all black. I have no idea if that was original or they did it(so many moons ago) when they sprayed the whole car black
I do appreciate the tips on how to paint them.

Good Day all, work is continuing on rust repairs. left side floor is complete now, other than painting. and the rocker is fitted, still have to tack it in place

going to work on front fenders next. found some NOS Packard fenders that should work nicely. will have to transfer the inner wheel well over. some minor modifications are needed to fit the Executive. plugging some holes, drilling some new ones.

My question today is....what is the little tab( circled in red) for on the inner fender wheel well?
there is one on each side in approximately the same location.

If the tab is where I think it is -- toward the engine side on the sort of box like sheetmetal in front -- it may be the one used to hold the parking light cable from getting too close to the tire.
