If you mean the maximum rate it is adjusted to supply after installation in the car it is 24-27 amps. If you mean the maximum it is capable of outputting completely uncontrolled then I doubt Packard published that spec and probably would need to find an Owen-Dyneto reference book.

Thanks Howard. I have what I have found out to be a CO -1177 Owens Dyneto generator on my 1936 Model 1402 Packard Limo standard eight. This might be a generator for a 1934 Packard. Does anyone have the maximum charging rate amps for an Owens Dyneto CO -1177?

Owen (not Owens) Dyneto CO-1177 was original factory equipment for 1934 8-cylinder models. Maximum regulated output of 24 amps occurs at 1500 rpm.

There was a running change during the 11th Series production to a "red label" version of the generator, red relating to the color paint on the nameplate. This version had better endurance for sustained maximum output and was introduced due to the increased popularity of radio equipment. If your car has Startix equipment, the Service Letters warn against mixing red label generators with black label Startix units.

You may want to change that generator in a GENERNATOR that's right it will boost the amps up to 50 and will look totally original on the outside (still maintaining 6volt). Check out Jay Lenos garage for the GENERNATOR video. Had my 1940 180 converted and it works great!
