Looking for a Mechanic/Shop in Davis/Weber/Salt Lake County Utah

Hello!

I have a 1954 Cavalier Sedan and I am looking for recommendations for an experienced Mechanic/Restoration shop in Davis County, Weber County or Salt Lake County, Utah to diagnose/fix a troublesome oil leak. My father thinks it could be the rear main seal due to the location. It appears to be coming from behind the main engine block but before the flywheel housing. (Note, I am not too mechanically inclined, yet.)

Thank you in advance!
Cory

It's likely. Acquaint yourself with the job of replacing it and where to get the seal by doing a Search in the upper right on this site for "rear main seal." There was a long thread on this this year, with some references to older threads, with photos.

If oil gets on your clutch, which it did on mine, the clutch will start slipping. I needed to be able to drive about 1,000 miles right away, so I dropped the bell housing, propped the clutch pedal, and sprayed brake cleaner. That was like 2013. I didn't wear a proper industrial mask and just about passed out. Dumb. But it worked.

Sounds more like your oil leak is just annoying and hasn't started to mess up your clutch. (You'd see oil coming out of the bottom of the bell housing if oil was getting in there.

If you join the PAC Club, you may be able to get a list of members in Utah for local shop recommendation.

Good luck and welcome.

G'day Cory M,
to PackardInfo. Sorry I can't help with your request.

But I invite you to include your '54 Cavalier Sedan in the Packard Vehicle Registry.

Thank you Joe! I have read through most of the thread and that is why I decided I need a mechanic. :)

Reaching out the the PAC members is a great idea, I will do that next.

Technically, it is already registered, but to my father, Jim McDermaid.
