My 1949 delux touring sedan(288) did not have a fan shroud on it when I bought it. Was a shroud standard equip on this car?

The forward pans pretty much guaranteed air flow to the radiator when moving. If they're missing, then could have issues.
The 288 idles so low and not much heat (one of the few advantages of straight blocks) it's usually not an issue, unless radiator plugged or something else malfunctions.
In this post war era usually only get shroud, if air conditioned. That was a naval war time invention later adapted to air flow. Idea took off in the '60s.
