My carburetor has returned from Daytona Carb, and looks great! New fuel pump also went on the engine, now I have to get my fuel tank back....Spring has Sprung here, and it would be nice to drive my Packard again soon.

Did a little detailing on the crank pulley. Hope that is easy to see with the timing light. Will certainly be better than when it was half paint and half rust!

I should have looked at those generator brushes closer a few months ago.....grrr

They should be replaced. I wonder if there is anything I can find over here. Anybody know a napa, or other part number for a delco brush set?

Thanks Ross. My friend in NY is going to organize a few NAPA parts for me...Either I spend an hour or two researching online with the hope of finding something locally, or I take the generator back out when I finally get the parts...it's about a wash on total time either way.
Crank pulley, and water pump are back on and so is the PS pump bracket, more to come soon.

Spring is sprung, and I want to have an operating convertible this season. The old hydraulic rams were in terrible condition, so I removed them and flushed out a lot of gunk from the hydraulic lines. I have installed the new hydraulic rams, but am unsure about how to bleed the system. The rams are currently attached to the body, but not the top. I understand I should run them in and out a few times with the top not attached. What I am not sure about is the level of fluid in the reservoir....Should it be full when the rams are extended (like the top is up) or when the rams are retracted (like the top is down)
Thanks for any drop-top advice!

This is an educated guess based on a knowledge of hydraulics, they must be collapsed with the reservoir full. If done with them extended, there would be no room for the returning fluid when they are collapsed.

The manual says fluid level should be at the max fill line when all the windows are down and if the seat is hydraulic, seat to the rear. On the top, I think Don is correct with them being down.

I didn't see a mention of top position and the demand will be almost but not quite identical when in either position. If you account for the volume displaced by the rods themselves then slightly less should be needed at the top of the cylinder when the rods are pushed down.

If the logic is correct, since the rods will displace the small amount of fluid, the cylinder rods should be down when level is checked to get the maximum amount of fluid possible in the reservoir.

Be very careful as the top cylinders are two way, fluid in bottom to extend and fluid in top to retract. You can't leave lines open.
