Some basic information would be helpful.

Big or small 8-cylinder?

Apologies, I missed seeing in your title that it was an 826.

no problem! I have never owned one but always wanted to. NADA has big difference in prices between 1930 and 1931 basic models, 726 verses 826. Seems like less 1931 produced according to model info on this site. What is a reasonable amount to pay for a 1931.

G'day Patp,
to PackardInfo.

Sorry, can't help on price.

But I invite you to include the '31 Standard Eight Sedan, when you purchase it, in the Packard Vehicle Registry.

If you're not having fun, maybe it's your own damned fault.

That's a tough question. For one thing I've seen a lot "restorations" that were better not done. If they knew anything about Packards then what condition is the chassis lubricator in? If it actually works then maybe it's a decent job. Even something like color choices - is it tasteful or circus? Look at the front brake cables where they pass through the chassis. There is a plethora of little things to those cars.

What people want for this stuff is all over the map and we are in a twenty year asset price bubble created by fake money monetary policy. For example, given the present actual inflation rate of 10-12 percent the expected value of cash that pays zero is higher than government bonds that pay 2%. Why? Because cash is losing 10 percent with no asset price risk, while bonds start out losing 8 percent with 50% asset price risk. If the fake interest rate scheme falls apart those bonds will crash and take everything else with them.

Do you expect that Packard to increase in value at the same rate as inflation?
Realistically, higher model sedans are having trouble getting 40k. But this is supposed to be a hobby. People who build model trains in their basements don't expect to start making money shipping goods around the country.

This has been long winded, but it's a tough world out there.

If you put your mouse cursor over NADA and the name of the other one, it will tell you on what the values are based.
