Added as the closest Packard model there is and then we can modify it after the fact.

Sadly there are too many custom variants to have explicit placeholders in the database.

George(pkdnut), for incluing your '39 120 Rollson Packard in the Packard Vehicle Registry.

As BigKev said, once it's in the Registry it can be "modified" to reflect the proper description for the car. Just go to the foot of your entry and click on the "Make Changes" button, overwrite the description with the one you require and save the changes. Alternatively, send me the description by PM and I can make the change for you.

And, because it's a somewhat "unusual", (ie Custom) Packard, a picture of the car would be appreciated, I'm sure I'm not the only one who would like to see it.

What I do on my sites is to have a lookup table containing the full names with a column that joins the shortened versions. Then the query for the search sees both the full name and the abbreviation without any need to go back and change all the data. That is one of the nice things about relational databases.

George has been very agreeable in regard to providing photos and details of his Packard. This is what he said in an email to me "This is the car that was bought at the Abelove auction. Pictures make the car look a lot better than it is but it is a really solid original and worthy of keeping it that way. I spent about 50 hours to bring it back cosmetically after having sat for almost 50 years." George also said this in a PM "The description should read One Twenty Rollson All Weather Cabriolet. Their description for an allweather town car. This is not a panel back. It's more like a club sedan with a leather roof and open chauffeurs area. It shows in the 1938 custom body catalog which is in the literature section. I find lots of 120 panel town cars but no one other model like this listed anywhere."
George for the additional info and for the photos.

The Packard has cleaned up very nicely, it's really a credit to you George.

Don,

You've baffled me with techno-speak, I have no understanding of what goes on behind the scenes. I'm just very thankful when my laptop turns on in the morning.

George (pkdnut), this sentence says a lot about his owner. If you would be a car dealer, I would tend to buy.

Oz,

I believe what Don is saying is that the search software will see when someone has written either a state name or a state abbreviation in their search, and add the other of the pair into what is actually searched. So if you search "packard tx" it will see that TX is in the query, see in the lookup table that it's the code for Texas, and include "Texas" in the query.

'55 400. Needs aesthetic parts put back on, and electrical system sorted.
'55 Clipper Deluxe. Engine is stuck-ish.

Actually vice versa is what I meant. If you search Texas but the entry has only TX, it will find Texas in the lookup table as coded or related from the TX entry which is where the term relational database comes from. So in other words, you could search TX or Texas and it would still find it and none of the entries need to be changed in order for it to work.

That said, those in Texas or most other states would get better results than I do when typing OR rather than Oregon! It is obviously a very common word.
