Packard "Coupe" Limousine/Town Car

Came across this rather interesting 1949 model on a facebook Packard group. It appears to have received a town car body. Note the script on the front fenders. I wonder if anyone might know something about it? It is currently for sale in France for $30,000. It appears to be generally fairly solid, but the photos are very poor.

It also has suicide rear doors so maybe a European body rather than a production car that's been converted.

In any case it wouldn't have been based on a Henney, the LWB 22/23 series cars were done by Briggs, not Henney.

How wonderful that this particular car (or one just like it) survives, in the Autoworld museum in Belgium last I knew but apparently now for sale. Its pictured in Neal's book. Coachbuilder noted as unknown. Really interesting car!!

Apparently several of these rear door hinge conversions were done on LWB models in the US for invalid transport purposes. Again, see some specifics in Neal's book.

Yes Dave (O_D), Belgium, the thought had occurred to me, too. For a couple of years it was on loan to the Autoworld Brussels, but then relocated to Mahymobiles. At Wikipedia they say, it is a Packard Custom Super Eight Derham Town Car Modell 2226 (1949).

I've seen the 49 Cadillac 75 with a town car conversion and a formal sedan conversion. I don't know who did them, but they looked great.

It's awesome to see that car preserved, but I don't know why they want to get rid of it.

If it was in the USA I could go for that, but I'm in a state of flux right now.

It would be great if we could read the two scripts on the front left fender, they might reveal who the coachbuilder was. I rather doubt it was Derham, I have friends who have been thru their archives and there is apparently no record of it there.

Here you go. I don't think it will help much.

Thanks JD. Do you have a view of the other script near the headlight on the front left fender?

The gap and broken base are for an "l'."
Garage de l'Est is an awfully generic name.
