main bearing replacement

I am attempting to replace the main bearings on my 1941 120. I loosened the bolts on all 5 mains the 1/2" recommended, However the crank does not want to drop.
Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks in advanace

Are you saying it hasn't dropped because you can't rotate the upper bearing shell halves out, or because you just don't actually see any movement but haven't yet tried to remove the shells? It only has to drop a few thousandths to easily remove the shells and the front end and transmission input shaft have far more than enough slop to allow enough movement.

Many yers ago I replaced the main bearings on a Ford van with a 5.4 litre engine. After dropping a main cap, I "rolled" (pushed) the new shell in place pushing the old shell out. I did not use any tools to roll in the new shell, just my fingers and lots of an oil and Snake Oil mixture.... something with zinc in it. It was a very successful.
