Maybe a bit late to the party, but as Don was saying, these lasted decades so having more strength as a production requirement is not necessary. Especially because you can just compress the spring to weaken it some, without changing the action or fitment of the starter assembly.

For example, my car has 93k miles and the bezel is only deformed by this much.

Crin,

Please reconsider. As Packard Don put it, the originals lasted a long time, and many of us will be happy with a reproduction with no structural changes. I have 2 56's with broken Ignition bezels, and have not been able to find a used one. A lot of 55 and 56 owners desperately need this part, and when word gets out that these are available, I believe you could sell a lot of them .

Thanks,

Jeff

I agree that something close to original would be better than nothing. While it would be nice to have something stronger a casting in the nickel alloy would probably be as good as and last as long as some of the cars will still be on the road.

If it is a matter of the preorders only getting up to 7 the notice has only been up for a couple of days and only on this forum which has been fairly quiet probably due to the end of summer and school starting. If it had been up a couple of months then a different story.

I do not have a NOS piece to offer as a pattern. The only intact bezel I have is scratched but if lack of a pattern was the deciding factor and you would be willing to reconsider I could offer that one. I know better pieces are available and hopefully one would be offered before Don goes up to his shop again.

Looks like I’ll be going up during the first part of October but if the project has for sure been cancelled, I’ll not bring the bezel back with me in the hopes that it will be reinstated. I had it here at home for a couple years and only just took it up so I guess bad timing on my part!

If you make them and they are as good as originals they will likely outlast the car owners. Some materials degrade with age and zinc is one ask any old train collector. Still interested

That's true, seems that 90% of the forum is above 50; given that, identical new bezels with die with or outlast their owners.

I will go in for the remaining 3 and can offer an NOS bezel for a template.

I am interested as well.
If this goes forward.

I hadn’t even had a chance to look the blueprints when this was shelved.

EDIT
What will need to be done about the lens for the key light. Can it be removed from the existing bezel and moved to the new one?

Thank you,

Not license, but lens for the key light.

Autocorrect and bad spelling and grammar on my part.
