I have been working on a car thats been sitting 40 years The gas tank appears to have been coated at 1 time. I drained the old gas and put a gallon or 2 of fresh gas in the tank and drained it 2 times. I put a clear inline fuel filter on I ran the car with new gas in the tank. The new fuel in the tank turns the in line fuel filter brown. Im afraid that it will clog up the carb. Should I keep running it or should i have it professionally cleaned or maybe someone has a better idea.

Take the tank to a shop and have it properly cleaned. It is not a quick process but you know as well as everyone that it is absolutely necessary. Old gas turns to varnish and it does not dissolve in new gas. Along with the varnish will be rust and dirt deposits encased in the varnish. It will continue to hamper your entire fuel system fouling the filter, pump, carburetor, and finally the valves. After that much time sitting a rebuild of the fuel pump and carburetor are also necessary if you want to enjoy driving it. Like the old Fram ads slogan, "Pay me now or pay me later".

Pulled the tank out this morning this is what I found if anyone knows someone with a good 1941 160 tank let me know im pretty sure 120 tanks are different.

What's it look like inside?

looks pretty bad the top corner is so thin I could probably push my finger through it. and it was repaired 2 times before.

Mine looked like a screen door on a submarine, welded in some patches then took it to Gas Tank Exchange and had them seal and coat it. Better than new.

That was my thought also to have it repaired.....
