Though we've talked about this before, my experience yesterday makes me want to underline it.

Had in a 47 Super which shifted VERY poorly. Every shift between 2 and 3, whether up or down elicited a big crunch. To save my nerves and its teeth I'd double clutch on each shift. I thought the trans was pretty far gone.

Still I gave it the old college try and replaced the trans and OD fluid with Napa GL-1. With the engine idling and clutch engaged I pushed the gear lever gently towards 2nd and 3d so as to wipe old additives off the synchronizer faces.

All fixed. Though not like spanking new, the trans is now quite acceptable to the point one doesn't think about it while underway. One sure did before. Also the OD shifts more smoothly as there is less lag in the moving of the balk ring.

Whatever oil was in there before was simply way too slippery.
