G'day AndyCFI,
to PackardInfo.

Don't forget, when the time comes and you are a Packard owner, to include it in the Packard Vehicle Registry.

In my opinion $50-$60 rental free, plus shipping both ways. Figure someone still has to get through all the keys to find a march and then avtuslly go get copies made.

Figure all in, thats less than $100. Much more than that, the local locksmith starts to look attractive for the sake of convenience.

Excellent, that's kind of the price range I was thinking. I'll order a big set of blanks and get to work.

question, are the key codes listed anywhere on these lock cylinders?

I have found them stamped on some cylinders but not others.

No idea if the numbers were only stamped some years or if they were actually on all originally but had somehow been worn off when missing. If a cylinder had the tabs filed down to make a different key fit then the numbers would be meaningless anyway and that could add some confusion when trying to rekey.

All Packard original keys have a number but nothing on aftermarket cut keys.

Replacement locks were typically un-keyed so these would not have key codes. I have some NOS locks right here in front of me like that. No key so no key code.

A note in the Owners Manual on my '37 says cylinders are NOT stamped with the key number and to record key numbers for future key replacement. This also could be because if you didn't have the correct key, you couldn't remove the cylinders.

If you have the cylinders out, a locksmith should be able to make you a key that fits and also decode the number for you from that new key.
