Many others out there some good some bad.
Don't miss the point, by diving into the details, and missing the point of energizing a device without checking it first.
I'm from planet "chemical industry" and if you energized a device with a fault without first diagnosing and fixing the fault, you'd be out of a job. Much higher consequences there.
I know it's a hobby but the difference between haphazard and methodical is a plan of attack or methodology.
Asked for the "right way" and got a bigger hammer approach?

Hello all, I have finally almost fully installed an R11 overdrive to replace the stuffed R9 which was in the vehicle. I have hit a bit of a snag as the speedo drive cable is the same but the speedo drive pinion is different. I would be very grateful if someone would be able to take a pic of the correct speedo pinion. it could be a 412442, 412443 or a 412444. so that I know what to look for. If someone has one of these available I would be very pleased to purchase it as i could soon adjust to it reading high or low, or even correctly. The Bentley is getting peeved at having the Packard above it.

Tell the Bentley to get over itself. It is in its proper position in life.

If you're not having fun, maybe it's your own damned fault.

Speedo pinion to use will depend on your rear axle ratio and tire size.

For 1946 models with overdrive, the 6 cylinder cars came with a 4:55 to 1 rear axle and the small 8 cylinder cars came with 4:3 to 1. Standard tires were 15 inch and export may have been 16 inch.

Best match speedo pinion will be the 412443 which has 18 teeth and was used with axle ratios of 4:3 and 4;36 for 15 inch tires

412442 has 17 teeth and used for axle ratios of 3:9 and 4:1

412444 has 19 teeth and was used for taxi and commercial chassis cars with 4:36 axle ratio and 16 inch tires. This one will be scarce.

Is it possible the internal contacts are the problem?
What is the procedure to access and test them?

Thanks

Hello Dallas, I have tested the solenoid with a 6V Battery as per the advice from Howard et al and it works fine. Just need to get the speedo driver sorted and drill new attachment for the operating cable (the Service manual instructions say to "end for end" the main cross member but that does not work for RHD).
