New to Group!

Hello All!

I'm new to the group and looking at purchasing my first car which is the 58 model . It's been sitting in a decent car collection for many years .

The current owner has stated that it's a running car . I plan to have it evaluated by a mechanic that specializes in vintage cars.

If everything checks out ok is there a range I should be considering ??? I asked a few other groups and got quite a range !!!

Thanks !

Welcome to the forum. Your prospective car looks in quite decent shape but no guess on price other than 58 was the last year of the Packard name and it was one of a very low production total. Being a good example of the end of the brand and era might raise the price a bit but other than the name, it is in all respects a high end Studebaker model. I believe it is based on Studebaker's top of the line President model. With exception of a few bolt on trim and accessory items from the old Detroit Packard parts bin and a few styling cues from the 55-6 models, mechanically there is very little if any other Packard engineering in the car.

There are a few on this forum with 58's that might have some ideas on price and answers if you have any mechanical questions but you might also check out the Studebaker forum and get some opinions there too.

In terms of value, it's not all that different to appraise. Besides obvious stuff like mechanical condition and originality, you want to check paint and chrome as that could be $15k to get both of those redone if they're starting to crack. Doesn't look like it from the picture but you also can't tell from 5 ft away.

The bigger question is finding a mechanic that is actually knowledgeable about a 50's Studebaker. What's your location?

'55 400. Needs aesthetic parts put back on, and electrical system sorted.
'55 Clipper Deluxe. Engine is stuck-ish.

on the AACA forum "not mine cars for sale" there are 2 hardtops and a sedan for sale. It will give info on asking prices which is not selling prices.

Those cars are mechanically robust, parts are available with astounding ease, and they are very pleasant to drive--I have the mechanically identical Stude President Starlight.

The car looks very nice even when I blow up the picture but I do see three caveats: It should not have the skinny whites tires nor the emblem at the back of the front fenders. The interior appears nicely done but the pattern is not correct and white was not offered
