Changed the fluid in the OD today and since I am alway lost....... What is this "thingie" do that goes from a crossmember of the frame to the tranny?

Seriously, it's obvious you weren't paying close enough attention to my Project Blog on the '41, then you would have known.
The "thingie" is an "Engine Snubber", think it helps prevent "clutch shudder", and I want a "thingie"!

The fact that so many snubbers are found bent or broken just proves the point that they are performing a function. I'd guess that worn motor mounts and stabilizers up front can contribute to their failure.

Well Said, Dave, and what really intrigues me is the design of this with the left hand/right hand turnbuckle - it becomes too easy to put a long wrench on this to overtighten, and stress/bend the neck as on Mal's...I agree that worn engine mounts and tranny mounts contribute to the failures on this. John - there was a half dozen of the tranny mounts in the club stock if any of yours are suspect (no front engine mounts, but these are easy/repro). Bates engineering is working on a retrofit design for the snubber using urethane bushings, like a common stabilizer link, but treat this as just a rumor for now.

Thanks to all. I have wondered what it was ever since I got the car, but finally took a picture. I'll have a look at all the mounts next time I am under there.
