Looking to swap the rear-end "90 weight hypoid Gear oil" what would be the equivalent these days?? I assume non-synthetic is completely acceptable because of the quality of the oil available these days vs back then?

Many of us use 85W-40 GL1 EP gear oil in the differential. It must be extreme pressure rated gear oil.

85W-140 GL1 not 85W-40 GL1. Surprised no one caught my typo.

GL-1 is straight mineral oil and is not suitable for the EP requirements of hypoid gear differentials.
GL-3 or GL-4 is OK.

Goops, BIG mistake. GL1 for trans and od and GL4 for differential. Thanks for catching this error.
