I don't believe the parts diagrams go into that much detail but it seems like the mechanic could be correct. That does look like a contact button on top. The solenoid is pictured and operation described in the overdrive training manual. B&W photo but Figure 14A does look like the copper colored contact should be below the other. Perhaps between the photos and description you will see anything else needed.

The statement of the recommendation is correct. The copper double-sided contact should be between the steel single contact in the base.
