1934 Packard sidemount cover advise

Hi All,

After all these years I finally acquired a set of sidemount covers for my 34 Packard. I am looking for some advise on using these. From what I read the cover that goes over the tire holds the outer cover in place, if so what stops this from rattling loose?

My wheel covers do not have any rubber. I had a look at Steele rubber, but they didn't list anythiung specifically. I did however read side mount cover pads for a 1936 Buick fit. Can anyone confirm this, or have suggestions what to use instead?

Also, I am missing the metal trim for these. These I'm guessing would be rare to find, but if anyone has any leads on remakes I would appreciate it.

Cheers,
Mat

If the sidemount covers function like the 1934 rear mount cover, the springiness and tight fit of the circumferential cover holds the circular cover in place. With proper sized, inflated tires the fit is too tight to dislocate or rattle loose. In fact, it is a chore to get the cover on or off.

There is no rubber on either section of the rear mount wheel cover.

Assuming you've got the correct covers for your tire size, the tread cover is a very snug fit and firmly holds itself and the side cover in place without any other hardware. IIRC the outer edge of the side cover has a non-metallic bead over the edge where it rests against the tread cover, round in cross section. I don't recall what it's made of, perhaps rubber.

The stainless trim on the face plate is as you probably already know unique to 1934 and nearly impossible to find.
