Again, why TF do people think it's a good idea to auction this type of vehicle. The number of people willing to buy this for even a grand let alone a fair price is extremely few in just 1 week.

Oh, and I sent the seller this message:

"First of all that's obviously a 1955 not 1956.
Second the factory VIN plate is missing so how is it titled? The VIN you gave, 56672037, is correct for a 1956 Clipper Constellation not a 1955 Clipper Super. Does that number even exist on the car somewhere?"

You want to reach the largest possible audience to sell something this specific, Ebay has global reach.

To the seller it isn't obvious that it is a 55, to us it is.

The seller insists that the VIN matches the tag and the title, yet I do not see the tag so there is something fishy going on. He said he would go to where the car is on Friday and photograph the tag so we’ll see what he comes up with.

Yes, obvious VIN swap. Or a faked plate and random title.

I wasn't even aware the year was wrong, couldn't get past the faux pink fur. What is the giveaway for a clipper. Patricians I kind of know. Lettering on the hood marks it as a 55' for a Patrician; then other subtleties. I was thinking under the hood looked a little off for a 56'; but again, I am not that knowledgeable of Clippers. Appreciate the education.

'55 Clippers have the same "sore thumb" style taillights as the '54 Clippers. The rear fins on the '56's are sharper and more angular.

Yes but you don't have to auction on eBay. You can just list it.

Perhaps not obvious to them but consigning a car without even getting the year correct is ridiculous. But I know why he did it, because it says 56 on the title.

There are countless differences between 1955 and 1956 Clippers if that’s what you’re asking. Different grille, different side trim, totally different trunk lid (1955 used the same one that had been in use since 1951) and entirely different tail lights. As already pointed out, the 1955 used the same type as 1954 Clipper while 1956’s were quite streamlined and vertical.

Between Clipper and Packard the differences were even more pronounced with most Packards (except for the mid-year introduction 1956 Executive) being on a 127” wheelbase while the Clipper was on the 122” wheelbase. There was some overlapping but typically the Packards had a larger engine too. And last but not least, for 1956 Clipper was a separate make while in 1955 it was still a Packard Clipper.

The easiest way to tell apart the years is the side trim. The 55 Clippers all have the "swoop" top trim line but the 56 cars have a straight piece front to back. The Packards it's even easier as the 56 ones have the stainless trim from front to back whereas 55 only went back halfway. (Note: there are some 55 Packards with 56 length trim.)

And for a Clipper, the two extremely distinctive and different taillights, one used 53-55 54-55 and the other during 56 only, are a sure giveaway.
